A simple but excellent game
Donut County ticks all the boxes for a good video game. To begin with, his artistic style, based on a “low polygons” design, creates an attractive aesthetic that manages to be recognizable and, at the same time, tender. It’s lovely to watch the friendly characters as they progress through the story.

The plot revolves around a raccoon and his friend, who work in a donut shop. However, this business is just a cover, as the raccoon’s real job is to create holes in the city. This causes the entire city to end up submerged underground, all because he wishes to obtain his “Quadcopter”, the reward for completing this unusual task. The story unfolds in the form of a flashback, showing how the events happened, and then moves towards solving the problem.

As for the gameplay, the main mechanics consist of controlling a hole that grows by swallowing objects, buildings, and even people who requested donuts 😊. The game takes advantage of this simple mechanic to offer a fun, cute and fast experience, ideal to complete in a single day. To keep it fresh, Donut County introduces small variations in its main mechanics, adding elements that enrich the gameplay. In addition, it includes a series of challenges that, although not difficult, add extra value. Thanks to the short levels, the game does not become tedious and can be completed 100% without frustration.

Conclusion: Donut County is a fun, cute and adorable game, perfect to end in an afternoon with a few hours of gameplay. It’s ideal for fans of indie and casual games. However, it is not recommended for those looking for a difficult challenge or a game with many hours of content, since Donut County is a short experience that knows how to take advantage of its virtues: it has nothing left over and nothing is missing. Super recommended!
