Recommendation HeadSpun

A video game with flaws, but interesting

Headspun is an adventure video game that combines real-world video recordings (FMV) with management elements, offering a unique and quirky experience within the genre. The story focuses on Ted and Teddy, who represent the logical part and the emotional part, of a man who remembers nothing after a traumatic accident. The game follows Ted’s journey through the brain, depicted as a “brain office,” as he works to repair it and return it to its functional state. In parallel, he tries to find out how the accident happened and who Theo really was before the event.

The narrative stands out for its creativity and originality. Apart from an interesting reflection on the identity of the theo and how he will not be the same after the accident for better and for worse. This approach gives the game a fresh touch, moving away from more conventional proposals.

Gameplay-wise, Headspun relies on completing routines to earn mental points that are used to repair parts of the brain and hire helpers. This mechanic, although interesting in theory, suffers from several problems. During our experience in Gamer Feels, we found a bug that allowed you to earn an excessive amount of points in a short time, unlocking everything quickly. This raises questions about whether this is a technical error or a design decision.

On the other hand, although the main cycle of the game is functional, it can become repetitive after several hours. While the interactions between Ted, Teddy, and the different brain departments are really interesting, the day-to-day within the game lacks enough variety to sustain interest in the long run. This problem is accentuated by the lack of polish in some technical aspects, which can frustrate the most demanding players.

Conclusion: Despite its flaws, Headspun is an original and unique proposal that stands out for its narrative and creative approach. It is an ideal title for those looking for an intriguing story with an unexpected outcome. However, due to its bugs and repetitive nature, it might not appeal to all players. We recommend this game especially to fans of narrative adventures and experimental experiences who are willing to tolerate certain imperfections in pursuit of something different. For those who prefer more polished games or games with complex mechanics, Headspun may not be the best choice. Still, daring to try something new and unique, albeit imperfect, is always a worthwhile experience. 😉
